Places we have visited in Bahrain

A VISIT TO THE DESERT

THE DHOWS
Local boats used for fishing.

THE BAHRAIN FORT

A 16th Century Portuguese fort built on the remains of several previous settlements , going back to the Dilmun era around 2800BC.

THE TREE OF LIFE
The Tree of Life – a single tree sitting in the middle of the desert with no visible source of water. It is a large, green acacia tree that has been there for hundreds of years.

THE GRAND MOSQUE

Al Fateh Mosque, commonly know as the Grand Mosque, This enormous building with its huge dome and two minarets can accomodate 7000 worshippers. Non-muslims can visit it at any time. Ladies need to borrow and abaya to wear when entering the prayer hall.

ARAD FORT
Arad Fort was built sometime around the 15th century, and was used used by the Portuguese. Then the Omani’s rebuilt it around the 18th century.

Our Cars

Niall's company car is called Monster. Just too big and fearless! It is a
Volvo XC90. You need a big car like this or you just get driven right over.

Say hello to Tsotsi Bug. He is a Hyundai Tucson and was a present from
Niall. He has been everywhere and has already had his first 1000km
service. Who said we lived on a small island? Things to do and places
to see

Middle East Plaza

Home for at least the next year. After looking for just the right apartment, we finally found it,
right on the water. Views and all. Home is on the 9th floor, apartment 92.
Our apartment comes with satellite, ADSL and it is serviced daily.

SEEF RESIDENCE

Home for the rest of August was the Seef Residence. We stayed in a fully furnished 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment was serviced every day, we had satellite and access to wireless internet downstairs. The gym was great and a lot of time was spent around the pool. Niall was only 2 minutes from work.

August 2006

We arrived in Bahrain at 9:00pm. It was still 40 degrees outside. What a welcome.

We spent our first 3 nights at the Mercure hotel.
